ARABESKEN

The arabesque, from it.: arabesco (engl.: Moorish, Oriental), is a tendril ornament developed from late antique, Hellenistic models. The term is used to refer to both the area-filling, naturalistic acanthus tendrils of the Renaissance and the more stylized foliate vine ornaments in Islamic art. The two are not directly related, but have similar roots.
